JOHN D. MILLER SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION
This fund was created in 1980 by a group of Postmasters who felt the importance of education in our society. With this need, they started this fund by joining forces with the St. Paul Postal Employees Credit Union, now the Ideal Credit Union. 1980 was the first year that the Scholarship Golf Tournament was held to raise monies for the scholarship fund. That first year, there were 3 scholarships awarded for $500.00 each.
In 1992, the group of postmasters named the foundation the John D. Miller Scholarship. John Miller was a postmaster in Hinckley, Mn and later in Lake City MN. He was the driving force from the onset to create and administer this fund year after year.
Since that first year, the foundation has grown, in 2012 we awarded 20 scholarships for $750.00 each. In our 35 years, the foundation has awarded over $275,000.00 to deserving students from Western Wisconsin and Eastern Minnesota.
Applications are reviewed and ranked by a 3 person selection committee of non-postal employees. From their rankings, we award scholarships based on funds available.
